Bangkok, September 2025 – The Ministry of Social Development and Human Security through the Department of Social Development and Welfare, has officially launched the “Street to Star” initiative, a nationwide program aimed at elevating performers and providing them with recognition, career opportunities, and inspiration to others.
Mr. Kantapong Rangsesawang, Director-General of the Department of Social Development and Welfare, highlighted that the project is designed to promote talented individuals by encouraging them to showcase their abilities with dignity, fostering self-confidence, and creating role models for society.
“This project not only motivates performers but also serves as a platform to discover emerging stars who can turn their passion into a career. It is about transforming talent from the streets into true inspiration for the public,” said Mr. Kantapong.
The initiative aligns with the implementation of the Begging Control Act B.E. 2559 (2016), which distinguishes between “performers” and “beggars.” Recognized performances include music, drama, traditional dance, acrobatics, magic, sports, singing, and performance arts. As of now, more than 15,250 individuals have registered for performer identification cards, including 11,103 general performers and 4,147 performers with disabilities, with music being the most common field.
Applications for “Street to Star” were open from August 8–25, 2025, attracting enthusiastic participation across the country. The competition features two categories 1. Solo Singing (Backing Track): 78 applicants 2. Band Singing (Live Performance): 19 bands, totaling 71 participants
From these, expert judges shortlisted 11 solo performers and 11 bands (46 participants in total) for the grand finale.
The final competition will take place on Friday, September 12, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM at the Eden Zone, 1st Floor, CentralWorld Shopping Complex. Beyond competition, the event is designed to celebrate and uplift performers, providing them with greater visibility, public recognition, and opportunities to pursue careers in the performing arts.
The “Street to Star” project underscores the Ministry’s commitment to nurturing talent, promoting cultural vibrancy, and turning dreams into reality a true journey from the streets to the stars.
